About this place

Embarcadero Plaza is a downtown public plaza at the foot of Market Street, opposite the Ferry Building and centered on the sculptural Vaillancourt Fountain.

History

Landscape architect Lawrence Halprin designed the inward-facing public space, which opened in 1972 as a major gathering place along San Francisco’s waterfront gateway.
