About this place

Palou Phelps Park is a steep grassland hill park with a small level playground, trails, city views, seasonal wildflowers, and bird habitat.

Highlights

  • Seasonal grasslandWinter rains turn the dry golden slopes green, followed in spring by California poppy, blue-eyed grass, checkerbloom, mule's ears, and other native flowers.

History

A Catholic orphanage occupied the summit until the 1960s. A Caltrain tunnel now passes beneath the slopes.
